Here are things we’ll like to know: We thank you in advance for taking the time to contact us about Hawai’i’s protected marine animals. We welcome any and all information. Your report will be most useful if you contact us when the sighting occurs and if you can include the following information:
- The date and time of the sighting
- A descriptive location of where the sighting occurred including island, beach name, and GPS coordinates if available
- The estimated size (length) of the animal
- Any identifying characteristics (tags, bands, man-made markings on animal, significant scars or other markings)
- The animal’s behaviors, including interactions with people and other animals
- The number of people within 100 feet of the animal
- Details of any observed injuries, entanglements or other concerns.
- Please take photos of the animal and its surroundings so we may be better prepared for any needed field response.
